Check the actual shoe

Read the care instructions for your model and its materials. This guide covers fabric shoes only where hand cleaning is permitted. Nike’s material guidance distinguishes ordinary textiles from delicate leather and suede. A waterproof membrane or mixed upper may need different care. Ask the maker if compatibility is unclear.

Remove loose dirt first

Let mud dry, then use a soft brush lightly on loose debris. Remove laces and insoles only if designed to come out; do not pull apart glued components. Set permitted parts aside for separate care. Choose a workspace where dirty sole water will not splash clean clothing or food.

Clean gently by section

Follow the model’s cleaner and dilution instructions. Nike’s cleaning steps use a mild solution, gentle brushing and blotting. Clean the sole and fabric upper separately, using only the moisture needed. Do not assume soaking, bleach, a stain recipe or a washing machine is suitable. Stop if the material changes unexpectedly.

Remove soap and air dry

Rinse or wipe away soap as the maker directs. Blot with a soft cloth rather than rubbing hard. Dry the shoe and permitted removable parts completely with ventilation at room temperature. ASICS warns against heat sources and dryers. A fixed number of hours cannot guarantee your particular shoe is dry.

Prepare the next use

Refit only fully dry parts and fasten laces before wearing. Cleaning does not repair worn construction or prove disinfection. Review shoe fit separately, then use the gym bag guide to pack. The activity choice guide helps plan what you want to repeat; care remains specific to your footwear.
