Confirm the task was taught to you

This guide is for an adult whose clinician has personally taught and cleared assisted elbow bending. It does not authorize adding assistance to an ordinary routine or returning after an injury or operation. If that permission is missing, ask first. The beginner mobility guide helps distinguish general movement practice from individual clinical instructions.

Understand the elbow direction

In the CUH elbow guide, the opposite hand guides the palm toward the shoulder. The elbow hinges as the forearm approaches the upper arm. This is different from turning the forearm, where the palm changes direction with the elbow held at an angle. Keep the position and comfortable range your clinician taught rather than chasing the picture’s angle.

Clarify the supporting hand

The CUH illustration shows the opposite hand at the wrist of the bending arm. Confirm exactly where your clinician wants contact and how much help is suitable. Do not infer permission to pull fingers, twist the wrist or push farther from this illustration. If contact or direction is unclear, ask for another demonstration before repeating the task.

Keep active tasks separate

Active elbow bending uses your own muscles; this task adds help from the other hand. Neither is an automatic progression from the other. South Tees elbow guidance says to repeat as directed by the physiotherapist. CUH leaves hold and repetition fields individual. Do not borrow a universal dose or combine these with an assisted wrist stretch.

Record your individual instructions

Write down the taught position, contact, comfortable range and any personal dose or restrictions. Stop if pain, numbness, swelling or loss of control occurs and seek clinical advice. A note is an observation, not a diagnosis or proof of recovery. Explore Fitonomy Mobility for its movement offering; app use does not supply clinical clearance or replace your instructions.

An elbow hinge and forearm turning are different tasks. If separately taught and cleared, compare the palm up turn with other hand assistance without borrowing the elbow instructions.
