Confirm personal permission first

This guide is for adults already personally taught and cleared for this assisted movement. It does not authorize starting after injury, surgery or immobilization. Guy’s and St Thomas’ says to do only the exercises instructed by your hand therapist, who sets the number and frequency. If the instruction is unclear, ask before trying to recreate it.

Recognize the direction

In CUH guidance, passive forearm supination means the other hand helps turn the palm toward the ceiling, with the elbow tucked at the side and bent roughly a right angle. The forearm turns; simply bending the wrist backward is a different task. Treat this description as clarification of your own instruction, not permission to reach the illustrated endpoint.

Keep assistance exactly as taught

Use only the other hand contact, support and permitted range you were shown. The illustration is not a force target. Do not pull on fingers, use body weight or keep turning to match somebody else’s range. If you cannot recall where your assisting hand belongs or how the movement should end, request a demonstration rather than guessing.

Separate neighboring movements

Seated forearm rotation describes active movement using your own muscles. Do not automatically add assistance to that routine. Assisted elbow bending changes the elbow angle instead of turning the palm; wrist bending is another direction again. Similar looking hand contact does not make the instructions or dose interchangeable.

Record your limits and ask about symptoms

Keep a note of the direction, contact, permitted range and any personally prescribed dose. There is no universal hold, repetition count or schedule here. Stop for concerning pain, numbness, tingling, swelling or lost control and seek individual advice. Fitonomy Mobility can accompany movement planning but cannot replace clinical clearance. This article’s language does not establish app language support.

The opposite direction is a personally taught assisted palm down turn; permission for this palm up task does not authorize it.
